The Crucifix Killer by Chris Carter

Holy God of all things, I have no words. I’m speechless and in shock, yet I’d like to scream until I just can’t anymore and hurtle everything within my reach at a wall and jump around and then cry because I’m full of adrenaline too. Can you tell I’ve lost my sanity? No? Not yet? Well, let me just tell you it took me half an hour to calm down enough to write up this review. I still can’t even English properly because I’m suffering a book hangover. The biggest book hangover in the history of book hangovers.

Chris Carter, you are a legend in my mind and by far one of my favourite thriller writers of all time. Your years of being a criminal psychologist clearly shine through in your writing BIG TIME. I never thought a book could mess me up so quickly, sometimes in only a few words. Like at the end of the book for example. First you slam the identity of the killer into the reader with brutal force. And just when they think they MIGHT recover, you knock them dead with ONE SENTENCE. And now I know I’m never gonna get over it. EVER. So you might as well hold a funeral for me because my brain ceases to exist from now on.

Now let me not be mistaken; this book IS NOT for the faint of heart. Not everyone will be able to handle this book. It is written with impeccable detail. Carter did not shy away from that when describing the gruesome parts of this story. In fact, it was so shock inducing and disturbing at some points that I would say this book should be illegal unless sold to people who have gone through a test to make sure their stomach will be able to take it and their sanity will still somewhat be there when they’re done reading. However, since that isn’t the case, if you even THINK you’ve got the resolve for it, you’ve GOT to give this book a read. It’s addictive in a way no other book might ever be. And luckily for you, there’s 8 more books after this… SO FAR.

Yes, that’s right. This is an ongoing series. A Robert Hunter Thriller. This is only the first book in the series. And if you’re like me, helplessly addicted, be reassured. Your next fix is waiting for you to pick it up.

(I’m currently having a few issues getting mine and that is leading to IMMENSE withdrawal symptoms, but what can a girl do. Except suffer without it of course.)

Back to the point: I’m crazy and diabolic because I would WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF HESITATION recommend this book to every single person there ever was. Someone needs to understand what I’m going through right now. Someone needs this dose of INSANITY in their lives as well so we can host a collective funeral for the loss of our brains.

So please, I URGE you to pick this book up and prepare yourself. Because once you start? There’s no going back. Count on being in this for the long haul. Not to worry though! I’ll be there with you.

In a derelict house in LA, a young woman is found savagely murdered. Naked, strung from two wooden posts, the skin has been ripped from her face – while she was alive. On the nape of her neck is carved a strange double-cross: the signature of a psychopath known as the Crucifix Killer.

But that’s not possible. Because, two years ago, the Crucifix Killer was caught and executed. Could this be the work of a copycat killer? Or is Homicide Detective Robert Hunter forced to face the unthinkable? Is the real Crucifix Killer still out there, taunting Hunter with his inability to catch him?

Robert Hunter and his rookie partner are about to enter a nightmare beyond imagining…
